A dentist in trouble for tax evasion who claims to be a sovereign citizen is trying to defend himself. It has not gone well so far considering he could not even get through his opening first sentence without the DA objecting 11 times.

“One objection came as Smith had tried to say he doesn’t have a duty to file taxes because the tax code uses the term “persons,” instead of “men” or “women.” Another time he started by saying of the prosecutors, “They don’t want me to talk about,” but before he could finish his statement, objections reigned down from prosecutors.”

He is trying a good-faith defense which essentially says he did not intend to break the law.

“In court filings, Smith wrote that he intended to argue at trial that he didn’t “intentionally or voluntarily violate” federal law because he “sincerely believed” he was exempt from paying income taxes.”

He’s already been in trouble for filing frivolous motions and even spend two weeks in jail and paid heavy fines.
