Mr. Anthony Matthews walked into a Dayton municipal courtroom to deal with his suspended license charge and left with felony charges. He was supposed to be on trial for a traffic case.
Like most sovereigns, he was representing himself and was repeatedly interrupting and arguing with the judge. He demanded that she dismiss the charges.
The judge warned him that if he didn’t stop that he would be held in contempt of court. Presumably because he would not stop his problematic behavior, court officers attempted to take him into custody. He began arguing with officers and punching them. They eventually were able to get him in handcuffs.
Court filings indicate that he believes he is a sovereign citizen and that he does not answer to the United States Court system. In fact, he wore a T-shirt in court that said “No Prejudice U.C.C.”
In addition to his traffic issues, he is been charged with two felony counts of assault on a peace officer and a single count of obstructing official business for the fight.
I will update as more information becomes available.
