Sovereign Citizens in Lithuania (and other sovereign stories): September 9, 2023

I appreciated this well written and explained article about the sovereign movement in Lithuania. It has gained attention after a kidnapping case in Kaunas by a father (N. Burovas) of his three children. The movement has been in Lithuania for about a decade.

N. Burovas considers himself the “world leader of sovereigns” and has developed the sovereign movement in the country.

In France, the biggest “sovereign” star is Guylaine Lanctot, also a anti-vaxxer) and who tried to establish her own sovereign community. Thankfully, that was disrupted by public reporting on a kidnapping plan.

German sovereigns are known as Reichsbuerger and Italy has the “Kingdom of Gaia.” The Czech Republic has had problems lately too, and so has Austria with Staatenbund Österreich who got 14 years for attempting to purchase a large quantity of weapons and asking Putin to assist in overthrowing the country.

The article goes on to discuss how sovereigns engage in confrontations with state representatives, often confusing them with their terminology and unconventional claims. In the end, the author writes that while sovereigns may not pose an immediate threat in Lithuania, the global rise of conspiracy theories and anti-state sentiments could fuel such movements in the future.
