On April 25, 2025, the US Marshals service saw 27-year-old Micaiah Clinton at a truck stop in Oregon. Mr. Clinton had warrants out for his arrest, including a federal warrant for violating probation after a bank robbery.

The US Marshals were also told that Mr. Clinton had told his probation officer that he would “never go back to prison.”

Police attempted to speak with Mr. Clinton and he barricaded himself in a van in the parking lot of the truck stop. Law enforcement then boxed in the van and ordered him to surrender. A SWAT team attempted to negotiate with him.

According to police, he “suddenly exited his van wearing a gas mask, body armor and a badge proclaiming to be a ‘Sovereign Citizen'” and shot an officer. Law enforcement returned fire fatally shooting Mr. Clinton three times, once in the head and two times in the chest. The officer whom Mr. Clinton shot is expected to survive.

There is no further elaboration on the badge proclaiming him to be a sovereign citizen.

Will post more information if and when available.
