This case involves a man by the name of Max Winter Frånlund. He was convicted for organizing illegal demonstrations related to the pandemic and government mandates. Apparently the number of participants at his demonstration exceeded that which the law allowed.

In his country, he is considered a central figure in the conspiracy–oriented anti-vaccine and anti-corona movement. His organization is called the Freedom Movement and is said to be a unifying force behind the largest demonstrations in Sweden. He is also a representative of the Rikslagen party which is linked to the far-right network.

In this particular case, he represented himself in court. The article (see below for link) notes that his ideas come from the American sovereign citizen movement. He argued that the pandemic law is subordinate to EU law which gives him the right to gather people in public. In a video he created, he was certain that he was going to win his case and even proclaimed it was a “great victory for freedom and justice.”

He was also certain that the court could not “prove” that he was an organizer of the movement. He stated that the court was “shaken” before his argument. Unfortunately, none of that seems to be true. The court rejected his claims. He plans to appeal his case.
