Though the words sovereign citizen are never mentioned in this article, this story has all the hallmarks of it being a sovereign citizen case.

63-year-old Jimmy Lee Minter of Kentucky was arrested after the police say he threatened to kill an officer after being stopped because of his homemade license plate that read “private citizen.”

An officer saw the man driving with a homemade license plate and pulled him over. He refused to give his name or date of birth. The officer then called for backup.

The driver refused to roll down his window and get out of the vehicle. The officer pulled out his baton and tapped on the window and in response Minter said “if you break out that window I will kill you!”

The officer then broke the window and the driver put the car reverse, speeding off and around the spike strips that have been laid down earlier in the traffic stop.

A chase ensued and eventually Minter got out of vehicle and charged the deputies. Minter was tased and eventually arrested.

In his vehicle, they found a loaded Taurus 45 caliber pistol in between two seats. He’s facing multiple charges including evading arrest, resisting arrest, unlawfully carrying a weapon and terroristic threats against a peace officer.

He’s being held on $300,000 bond.
