Beeks is now saying he is not a sovereign citizen. He is rather an "American standing under public law on a special divine appearance."
He rejects an lawyer speaking for him.
Howell: Do you want to rep yourself?
Beeks: "I cannot represent myself because I am myself."— Alan Feuer (@alanfeuer) November 29, 2021
The judge was not having it, calls his arguments “gobbledygook.”
His public defender intervened and he seemed to listen to her. The judge ordered Beeks to remain released. He’s will travel to his home by Wednesday afternoon and report to court from there. He’ll be under home detention, and will have a curfew of 10pm each night.
Beeks is the fourth capital rioter to try a sovereign citizen defense. The others include Pauline Bauer, Eric Bochene & Alan Hostetter (founder of American Phoenix Project).
None have been successful in utilizing the defense in court.
