Learned a bit more information about the parents who took their children from a care home. The father renounced his Lithuanian citizenship and referred to himself as a “free, living person.” They tried to flee the country after kidnapping them from a foster home.
“The couple, in an audacious move, attempted to cross the border to Belarus in a car with German license plates. They used forged documents to try and slip past border guards. However, their plan was thwarted when, during the inspection of their documents, they hastily sped away. This set off a two-kilometer chase that ended in their detention.”
It is possible they are connected to a group of sovereigns run by Žilvinas Užkuraitis (see below for more details).
The parents are facing child abduction changes. The children have been returned to foster care.
Lithuania’s intelligence service, State Security Department (VSD) said that there are several hundred people who identify themselves as members of the sovereign citizen movement, and a few dozen who consider themselves citizens of the USSR.
It was also noted that what they referred to as the ‘pandemic era cluster of sovereign citizens’ was an offshoot of the Krishna consciousness movement—Vaishnavismm known as the Krishnaites. They also explain that the actual Krishnaite organization in Lithuania distanced itself from the sovereign citizen group.
A parallel to this in the US is Moorish sovereigns. There are people in the United States who identify as Moorish and that organization distances themselves from Moorish sovereigns.
One sovereign citizen leader in Lithuania is Žilvinas Užkuraitis who is a nutritionist and founder of a community that issues alternative passports, IDs, birth certificates, and car license plates. This group is also associated with a pro-Kremlin group.
Užkuraitis, his son, and another individual were part of a self-appointed “citizen delegation” that met with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.
Užkuraitis organized a group of people in the summer of 2021 and called it Sovereigns World Congress and reportedly, pro-Kremlin individuals participated in the event.
Another splinter sovereign community called the Sarmatų Ainiai was led by singer-songwriter Dainius Babonas.
There is yet another group led by Arvydas Balčius; he ran for public office and identified himself as the head of the World Organization of Sovereign People’s States. He also founded a legal association to raise funds.
You can read more about all the sovereign citizen connections in Lithuania here. The article is incredibly detailed and gives you a sense of what’s going on with Lithuania’s sovereign citizens.
I have written about similar child abduction cases in other countries here.
