Waangwaa Kirnwil Yarrawirri has been charged with deliberately lighting the fire the caused the damage to the old parliament house. While in court, as many sovereigns do, he caused a lot of problems.
He argued with the the special magistrate, refused to enter pleas, wanted to be referred to by another name, attempted to read bogus court documents, and challenged the court’s jurisdiction.
In addition to arson, he’s also charged with damaging property, assault and resisting a territorial public official.
“There is no evidence that the Crown has applied the local title of the land to the First People of this continent,” he told court officials.
