This report comes from Alachua County in Florida. According to reports, Mr. Hugh Machen allegedly brought a gun into a VA optometry clinic. He arrived for an appointment and was asked to leave. He then allegedly went out to the parking lot, acquired a gun that he put under his jacket and came back in. Somehow, the staff were alerted, put him in a room and called 911.

When the police came, he admitted to being armed. When informed that it is a felony to carry a concealed weapon on federal property, he reportedly told law enforcement that the law didn’t apply to them. He would not comply with commands and allegedly grabbed the handle of his gun that he had hidden in his jacket.

Because he would not follow instructions and was repeatedly grabbing for his gun, he was tased multiple times and eventually handcuffed.

On his person, they found a holster, and “Environmental Deputy Marshall” badge, handcuffs, and homemade law enforcement identification cards. When he was asked why he did not have a concealed weapons permit in any state, he said that the laws of Florida and the United States are not applicable to him because he is a sovereign citizen.

He’s currently being held on $12,000 bond.
